Vinted Shopping
So I had a little money. I had my newly downloaded Vinted app. I had a plan. I knew what I needed. I started shopping.
I began by going through things and favouriting a whole lot of things, before I was able to afford them. There were definitely a few things I fell in love with that I was absolutely going to get, if they were still there. Not all of them were. There was a great t-shirt bundle that went just before I could afford it. So when I had money, I was ready to go... I discovered though, that Vinted actually lists your purchases to 20 per day. This was actually a lucky thing, because my Asda order came and I found I needed size 24 more than size 26.
On my first day, I had focused on jeans as they were something that made me anxious. I didn't want long or short jeans or skinny jeans. Just regular length. Bootcut if possible. I was not fussed about colour so much either. I ordered two pairs in each of the sizes but size 26 proved really tough, both pairs got cancelled. One they had moved and lost them and the other just timed out. I actually found it pretty hard to find two pairs of size 26 jeans I wanted and I actually settled for one and a pair of pink cords. I am still debating whether I need a second pair of jeans or not. I suspect I will at some point. I am not in a size 26 jean yet, but it isn't so far off.
I am smaller on top than down below. My weight loss has not been even. I don't always find it easy to do the zip at the bottom of coats. Coats are also pretty expensive. I have a huge Regatta waterproof with pockets that are falling off for dog walking in the rain. I also had a blue faux fur short jacket I adored. I found it warm and shower proof for going out in with a car. Also with the bottom hitting at the bottom of my waist, before the true flare of my hips and bum, they fit better up top. So I brought two, a pink in size 28 and a grey in size 24. Of course I found the pink is perhaps a little too big and the 24 is wearable but snug over some things, once I received them. I settled for a size 24 black puffy M&S coat. I can wear it now but that lower zip is tricky and it isn't ready yet for dog walking. Hopefully it will be by winter and I can ditch the oversized black coat.
I realised I had made a mistake though... This year it has been colder and damper and I realised I really needed a light waterproof that fitted now. I ended up buying a purple light shower jacket in a size 28/30 because I wanted it to fit over things and do up. Its not a long term coat but its lightweight and does the job. I also keep looking at a Regatta in a size 22 which is rainproof.... I will need another good waterproof dog walking coat. I am not sure the m&s coat will be waterproof enough.
Then there was swimming costumes. I like swim dresses because they cover me up better so I am less conscious of my HS. They are available but they are not cheap new and cheaper ones are harder to find. I was not so fussed about looking great, I just wanted to make sure that in the warmer months, I could swim. I brought a size 26 and a size 24. The size 26 is flowery and not very me. It also turned out to have weird boobs. I wear swimming costumes to swim, not to sit around on a beach looking nice. I don't want my boobs scaffolded up to look like they are defying gravity, I want them secure and sensible.
I decided that in terms of jumpers I would wear out and about, I just wanted a shorter long sleeved black jumper, preferably with a high neck. I brought a size 26 and a size 22. I also brought a one size crochet jumper to wear over brightly coloured tops. I really like it over a pink top I have and obviously it will fit for some time yet. I was glad it already fits and looks nice.
A huge part of my plan was ponchos. I already had a few and made sure to dig them out and start wearing them. I brought a black and white knitted one. It's great for colder summer days but I am not sure it will be long enough for the winter. A lovely thick grey wrap which which layer well. I had fallen in love with a butterfly throw over. Its a bit like a butterfly shaped blanket with the tops of the wings folding over the shoulders so it's longer at the back than the front. Its wooly and black and off white and I have never seen anything like it before. Its a little too unique to wear every time I go out but it's something I can wear out for years to come.
I wanted a black poncho though and I found a lovely one with wooly fluffy bits. When it arrived I discovered it was much more luxurious than I was expecting. A beautiful garment, but something was niggling at my brain and I didn't figure it out until after I clicked everything was ok and had given positive feedback. It took me a while to find a tiny label hidden away and my worry proved true. I had accidentally brought a rabbit fur poncho that was very possibly also a Chinese fake of a designer brand I had never heard of before. I was gutted... and also itchy. I still have no idea what to do with it. I won't wear it and I won't sell it. I don't agree with fur farms.
I did however fall in love with the faux fur ponchos produced by this brand. I don't especially like that they also sell real fur, but I am never going to buy from them. I think secondhand clothing kind of gets wiped clean in some ways. Its about keeping it out of landfill while being thrifty and stylish. I have as much Shein as I do designer items now, and I wouldn't buy from Shein either.
I found another of these black faux fur ponchos and I verified it was truly faux fur. Its lovely and goes really well with my Joe Browns devore top I got to have one nice piece of clothing in different sizes sometime before. I wore both to a wedding and was exceptionally glad I had when I discovered the majority of the wedding was to be outside.
Which brings us to dresses... I don't wear them much. I quite like to wear short dresses with leggings though. I brought two, a size 24 and a size 22/24 for now. I also brought a 22 and two 20's for later, all in bundles with other things. The last dress I brought is a size 18. I had fallen in love with a Twisted Wunder dress with pink stars on it but didn't want to buy it new. So when I saw it in a size 18 I snapped it up, for the future. I look forward to the day I can wear it. The two for now are both interesting. One is a stretchy black polyester which is asymmetrical with a tie waist and I really like it. The other is bright and summery and turned out to be exceptionally love cut. It's lucky I planned to wear it as a tunic because I could never wear it without a vest underneath.
I wanted a range of different tops. I wanted cami and vest tops in case it was a hot summer but also to wear as vests under things in the winter. I found a bundle of four summer vests and camis but I also brought a creamy cotton top and some cami's as parts of bundles from other shops. They are such low cost items I would only generally bundle them up with other things. I find it's also hard to tell whether they are smart ones or not. I got a black one that is silky and smart but I also got bobbled ones. Its all good. The cream summer top is lose and flowing and fits just fine even though it is a size 22, because the only fitted part is the shoulders.
I didn't buy many casual T's in my current size, just a flowery fox one, because I have plenty I can wear right now. I also have some in smaller sizes that have come from a variety of places. A freebie or two. A tourist souvenir. A Christmas gift grinch. One or two from the past I had kept hold of for sentimental reasons. So I brought a couple of size 22's, a readasaurus dinosaur and sugar skull. The rest of my t-shirts are smarter, although few in number.
People have a tendancy to buy nice tops for going out and only ever wear them a few times, so there are a lot of smart tops on vinted, a lot of smart clothes full stop. I have brought probably more smart things than I need in reality, but not so many I won't wear them all. I now have a selection of clothes so I am provided for down to a size 20 up top and 24 down below.
I started selling my clothing on Vinted that I no longer wear and I use this money to keep buying clothes on Vinted, so I can keep filling in the gaps. I had been buying size 32 clothes for probably a decade, and keeping the vast majority of them. I have a lot to sell. I have a need for certain types of clothing for certain events, but also still smaller jeans, maybe a size 26 pair too. I also need a really good winter outdoor coat. Plus there are the things I fall in love with. Its an ongoing thing. Next time I have some spare cash, I will invest some more again, probably part way through next year. Until then, it's just what I can afford from what I make from selling clothes and anything I find I desperately need.
I have way too much clothing still though, in larger sizes. I will actually be glad when I get just a little smaller and I can no longer justify keeping it for layering and because I don't have anything else to replace it.
