Getting Back on Track

So this year has not gone to plan at all.  My health really scuppered any attempt to do anything.  It was my ears again.  Ear infections that didn't respond to antibiotics until they decided it was my sinuses...  Now I am using steroid nasal spray and it is a slow but positive progress.  My ear is still leaking but not in the way it was.  By far the worst ear infection I have had, except the one  where I burst my ear drum scuba diving. Exercise has gone completely but I have got back to cooking Slimming World meals now.  The first week I was back on it I lost 4 pounds but last week I regained a pound and this week I am not sure I will be losing.  So I have to really look hard at what I am doing.  Yes, the lack of exercise makes a huge difference to my metabolism but I should be able to lose slowly through diet.   So why am I not? I have two trouble areas, snacks and breakfast.  I tend to pick up a handful of diet snack bar...

Looking Forward....

So 2025 begins with my ears OK but rumbling.  My head feels full and stuffy and my rhinitus is in overload.  Everything is a bit glue-like.  I am ready to continue losing weight and exercising more but possibly a little stuck?  We had found the motivation before Christmas to get completely back on track.  That will remains and our diet is pretty good.  We never stopped eating well for out main meal and having left overs the next day but a few takeaways had crept in and some chocolate. My husband had gained weight too and was about 0.5 stone over his target but these tweaks mean he is likely to be back in target when we weigh next week.  He only has another 0.5lb to go. We are away in April again, with some of the same people.  It's a smaller group though, less arranged.  We are staying in a self catered flat so there will be no all you can eat buffet for breakfast, lunch and tea.  In fact, I will be doing my own breakfast and some of my ...

Looking Back....

So last year was not great in terms of weight loss or general health.  I did well for the first third of the year.  My weight loss was a little slow, but happening and I lost a stone but also increased my fitness hugely.  I was walking 5km at least once a week and could do 7km occasionally.  I felt great and in April made an effort to resize my wardrobe using Vinted.  I sold most of my too big clothes, sizes 28 - 32, and brought 24 and 26, with jeans in size 28.  I also future proofed it with smaller sizes of jeans and size 22 and 20 clothes.  I expected to keep losing weight and feeling great. Then we went on holiday to Italy, all inclusive. I ate all the food, three meals a day.  I had a great time and went out and about a lot.  I got an insect bite that was really nasty on my big tow on my right leg that was really nasty and I had to treat for the rest of the holiday.  I also ended up with very swollen legs from walking, the higher te...

Vinted Shopping (partly): The Wedding Part 4

I now how my outfits for both days but although I had underthings I could wear, it was clear they wear a bad choice.  I needed a little more help and support and smoothing.  Not too much though as I wanted to be able to move and breathe and eat. I needed a multiway bra for the navy dress as bra straps would be visible at the front, although largely hidden at the back.  I decided that a multiway would work because I could cross the straps over at the front.  I knew what size to buy, in theory.  When they came they were horrendously huge.  I sent them back and ordered the two different smaller sizes...  Luckily one of them did fit OK, because time was very short by this point.  They came as a two pack so I wore the nude one with the navy dress and the black with the black cami and bolero. I ordered shapewear for my lower half and it wasn't too bad.  I am sure there were sets that would have smoothed and supported more, but I think it's a compro...

Vinted Shopping: The Wedding Part 3

So the wedding has been and gone and it was great fun!  I have been a little bad in not writing about it though, so this is a catch up post.  Last year was not great health wise.  It just niggled and I spent a lot of it not feeling great and so exercising less etc.  While I didn't gain weight, I certainly did not lose the weight I gained on our April holiday to Italy.  Not gaining though is a win.  I am still 5.5 stone lighter than I was. This weight gain meant though that the scuba dress was out.  Its a beautiful dress and I will wear it but I need to loss a little weight first.  Again.  So this left me with the purple poncho and the lovely black chiffon overlay trousers...  and not much else. I continued hunting for navy blue dresses.  In a mad moment I brought a Coast dress on the off chance it would work with very little idea about how the dress actually was.  The seller obviously just wanted it gone because the photos made...

Vinted Shopping: The Wedding Part 2

OK so I thought I had things sorted out...  though I was leaning towards switching the two outfits around, so I wore the black trousers and purple poncho on the Saturday and the dress on the less formal Sunday.  I wanted to check though about wearing black. Black was not a huge issue but trousers it seems are.  In Poland, women just don't wear trousers to weddings.  They wear very nice dresses and high heals before switching into other shoes to dance and drink lots of vodka.  So my lovely chiffon overlay evening trousers...  just not going to cut it.  I would have been the only woman in trousers and as the Groom's Mother, just no.... Trousers would however be ok for the second day....  but my scuba dress is an issue.  The second day is a barbecue outdoors which I had not realised.  My stepson is planning on wearing shorts and a shirt because it will be hot.  So my scuba dress will be way too hot and my black trousers, well, not my c...

Health: Respiratory

It's easy to think our respiratory system is just our lungs but that's just the lower bit.  The upper respiratory system is our ears, nose and throat and all the little tubes that connect them together. My ears were an issue from quite a young age.  I don't remember when, they just always were.  I remember being taken to see an ENT specialist by my parents but I don't really remember what was said.  I was just too young.  I do remember that there was not really much to be done.  I was a child that grew up knowing words like Eustachian Tube and Catarrh. I had glue ear and then gromits to drain it.  I was always getting ear infections and was often at the Doctor's having my ears syringed out.  I was often on antibiotics.  I had my adenoids taken out around age 6 and things did improve after that.  I didn't have quite as many ear infections as before.  They were still a feature of my life, just not as constant.  I also remember th...
