Vinted Shopping: The Wedding Part 2

OK so I thought I had things sorted out...  though I was leaning towards switching the two outfits around, so I wore the black trousers and purple poncho on the Saturday and the dress on the less formal Sunday.  I wanted to check though about wearing black.

Black was not a huge issue but trousers it seems are.  In Poland, women just don't wear trousers to weddings.  They wear very nice dresses and high heals before switching into other shoes to dance and drink lots of vodka.  So my lovely chiffon overlay evening trousers...  just not going to cut it.  I would have been the only woman in trousers and as the Groom's Mother, just no....

Trousers would however be ok for the second day....  but my scuba dress is an issue.  The second day is a barbecue outdoors which I had not realised.  My stepson is planning on wearing shorts and a shirt because it will be hot.  So my scuba dress will be way too hot and my black trousers, well, not my choice for a barbecue!

So back to the drawing board and start again?  Not quite....

I still have the lovely purple poncho which is ever so smart, I just need a dress to wear it over.  If I am looking for a dress, then I figure Navy is a better colour than black and I best look for a size 26 to make sure it fits.  It needs to be smart but a plain fabric to go with the poncho.  I found a lot of brands just were not going to work well.  Windsmoor tends towards very ornate fabrics and Joanna Hope is similar.  I can not get over the name of Pretty Little Mistress, I just refuse to be anyone's Mistress.  Some brands tend towards dresses that would look better on someone younger or who wishes to display more skin.  In my hunt though, I noticed a brand called Chi Chi consistently had dresses in a plain fabric that were not too revealing and nice for a wedding.

I found a few Chi Chi dresses in navy blue.  The first had straps that crossed over at the back and my concern was whether I would be able to wear a bra because of the cross over bit at the front.  Short answer is no.  The bra would have been a little visible at the front but the real issue would have been at the back.  I would have needed a strapless bra anyway because the dress straps would not have hidden much as they did not sit in the right place.

There was another seller with two dresses.  I though about getting both.  I ruled out one in the end, not because of the top half but because of the bottom.  It had a lovely frothy chiffon overlay that was very scrunched and pretty.  It just felt too young for me, too princess-y.  The second dress though, I decided that if it fit, it would be perfect.  It had a high neckline and looked like it might flair over the hips a little.  So I could wear a bra and be perfectly decent and presentable under my poncho.  So I brought it.

The seller messaged me very quickly in a panic because it had sold some time ago and she no longer had it.  It was a little confusing to begin with.  Maybe it was an issue with the app.  I had to cancel the sale though.  No point trying to buy a dress that was not there.

I realised I had another Chi Chi dress in my favourites I had initially discounted and realised that would work well.  Not too much on display to stop you wearing a bra.  Little cap sleeves that would hide some of my upper arm issues.  A twist knot at the front that means it has a definite waist.  It looks like the twist gives the fabric a texture and a bit of drape.  So I messaged the seller to see if it was still available as it's been up for sale for some time and after the last attempt....

In the end though, this dress was not meant to be.  I realised that it would be impossible to wear a bra with.  Even a strapless bra would end up being visible at the back.  I get that young people might be able to wear quite revealing dresses while being overweight but this is not for me.  Things sag as you get older and also as you lose weight.

So back to the second day with the barbecue.  Trousers definitely feel preferable to me.  I don't want to have bare legs.  I would want to wear tights, so yes trousers sound cooler.  Black is not summery, but that leaves a lot...  White came up as an option and I decided to remove the two pairs of white trousers I have from Vinted.  I need to try them both on again and try them with different tops.  I had mostly put them up for sale as I had not worn them in years and had nothing to wear them too planned.  But white trousers with a nice flowy top would be a great solution for a barbecue.

I started to consider tops and remember the lilac trouser suit I brought.  Another bad purchase as there is no way I could have worn it to the wedding based on the no trouser rule!  The trousers don't fit but the top does and it is elegant and long and flowy.  It would be nice for a warm day.  I need to try it on with the two pairs of white trousers.  It would need some nice jewellery to sparkle it up, but I can do that.

I also have a really nice earth tones batik top I was given.  I need to check the wear on it though.  It was a much loved top belonging to a friend who lost a lot of weight.  I even have a set of sparkly jewellery to go with it, although the bracelet will no longer fit.  I also have a pair of jewelled flip flops / sandals.

So a couple of options.  I need to do a little fashion show and see how everything fits and get the opinions of my husband.
